Lambchop—the Nashville collective revolving around lead singer/songwriter Kurt Wagner—has been releasing music for 26 years now. Most of that material fits into the indie-country idiom, but their first album in four years, FLOTUS (an acronym for For Love Often Turns Us Still) finds Wagner making one of the boldest stylistic changes of his career.

On the new LP, he renders almost all of his vocals through an Auto-Tuner. The result is hypnotic, often poignant music, which doesn’t sound much like the Silver Jews or any smooth, Indie Guy Does Auto-Tune music you’ve ever heard.

FLOTUS is due out on Merge next Friday, November 4, but for the moment, you can stream the dense, hour-plus album below, thanks to NPR.
